When the first snow flakes fall in the Main valley, the Spessart forest has long since been transformed into a winter wonderland. The “Bayrische Schanz” is a recreational area at the upper reaches of the Spessart Nature Park.
The Sports Association of Ruppertshütten, the highest of Lohr’s districts, prepares and maintains three cross-country skiing tracks:
- The Lohrberg track: 5 kilometres through the forest (Start from Bayrische Schanz car park)
- The Herrmannskoppe track: 8 kilometres through the forest (Start from Ruheforst car park)
- The Sonnenloipe “sunny track”: 15 kilometres across country (Start from Ruheforst car park)
If you prefer sport sitting down(!), then our recreational area has just the thing for you, too. Right next to a cosy forest inn, there are two short toboggan slopes suitable for young children.
